| It's been a little over a year since I last blogged, and during that time I made a not-so-spontaneous decision to build an addition to my home and create a printshop. After a few false starts due to zoning issues, I hired a contractor and began the process (blueprints, adjustments, new drawings, etc.).
My original intention was to purchase a tabletop Takach press (the company is right here in Albuquerque and make fine machines). But on a whim I Googled "used etching press" and amazingly, up popped a used Griffin floor model. I won't go into the bidding and re-bidding details, but in the end, it was mine - all 1500 pounds of it! Even after the (huge) expense I paid to ship it here from California, I ended up with a great deal and a fantastic piece of equipment. (If you ever need to ship large or valuable cargo, I highly recommend www.cratersandfreighters.com - they did a phenomenal job packing this behemouth of a press and getting it to me unscathed).
It's taken a while to get the shop organized, but I've finally started printing and it's a wonderful feeling to walk a few yards from the house and have everything waiting for me! I hope to have new work to post early next year.
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
